In a shocking development, a 57-year-old man from Lake Oswego, Oregon, has been accused of drugging three 12-year-old girls during a sleepover at his house. The incident occurred on August 26, 2023, when the girls, who were friends of Meyden’s daughter, attended a sleepover at their friend’s house. The girls later tested positive for benzodiazepine, a depressant that produces sedation and hypnosis, relieves anxiety, and reduces seizures.

Meyden turned himself in to the Clackamas County Jail on February 28, 2024, and was indicted on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including causing another to ingest a controlled substance, application of a schedule-4 controlled substance to another, and delivery of a controlled substance to a minor. His bail was set at $50,000.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Meyden was highly involved in the girls’ activities during the sleepover. He took them to get their nails done and picked up pizza for dinner. The girls spent most of their time in the basement, where they watched movies and did facials. Sometime between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., Meyden prepared the smoothies and insisted that the girls drink them. The smoothies had “tiny white chunks throughout and sprinkled on top,” and one girl, who didn’t like smoothies, was given a second one to try.

The girls described feeling groggy, even blacking out, after drinking the smoothies. They told police that Meyden was very involved with their activities during the sleepover and that they “got ready for bed at Mr. Meyden’s direction”. Meyden was also accused of repeatedly checking on the girls throughout the night, including putting his finger under one girl’s nose and waving his hand in front of her face to see if she was asleep.

Meyden’s lawyer, Mark Cogan, said his client had not seen evidence in the case and hoped that people would reserve judgment until all the facts and circumstances were known.
