Ten Arrested, Stolen Goods Recovered in Meru Following String of Bar Break-Ins

Meru County, Kenya – In response to a series of brazen break-ins at bars across multiple counties, including Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Laikipia, and Kirinyaga, a well-coordinated police operation has resulted in the apprehension of ten suspects and the recovery of a variety of stolen goods.

The suspects, identified as Bonface Mutwiri, Patrick Mwenda, David Mwaki, Gideon Gatobu, Sharon Makena, Fidelis Kananu, Abdillahi Yussuf, Caroline Kanana, Bonface Kathiri, and Martin Mwiti, were arrested in a meticulously planned sting operation. This operation was led by the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Crime Research detectives, with support from local law enforcement officers in Meru.

During the operation, one significant breakthrough was made when a raid was conducted at Stinger Lounge Bar, owned by Geoffrey Muriuki, who is believed to be the mastermind behind these break-ins. Additionally, Muriuki is suspected of being the custodian of the stolen goods. During the search, a variety of stolen items, including alcoholic drinks, keg pumps, keg cylinders, and other related items, were successfully recovered.

In a parallel operation, three vehicles belonging to different suspects were intercepted in the Makutano area. Upon conducting thorough searches, the authorities discovered a panga and metal bars inside a Toyota Probox Reg. No. KCA 836R driven by Gedion Gatobu. Another vehicle, a Toyota Probox Reg. No. KBK 075S driven by David Mwaki, yielded two knives, two pangas, two metal bars, two pairs of number plates, and empty sacks.

The diligent detectives also intercepted yet another motor vehicle with the registration number KAX 542R, driven by Patrick Mwenda Kirimi. This vehicle is believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes.

Further investigations led the authorities to Sharon Makena’s residence, where additional stolen goods were recovered. These included an LG TV, assorted drinks, a keg pump, an Infinix phone, and a Lumix lens camera.

While a manhunt for Geoffrey Muriuki, the owner of Stinger Lounge, is still ongoing, the other suspects are undergoing processing in preparation for their arraignment on Tuesday morning.

The successful outcome of this operation demonstrates the dedication and coordination of law enforcement agencies, ensuring that those responsible for these criminal activities are brought to justice. The public is encouraged to continue supporting these efforts by providing information to the DCI through the hotline number 0800 722 203, which operates 24/7.

Controversy Surrounding Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s Alleged Arrest

In a recent social media storm, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza found herself at the center of a rapidly unfolding controversy. The events were triggered by a tweet from Citizen TV, stating that the governor had been arrested in Imenti Central while donating a cow as part of her Okolea Outreach Program. This arrest claim was further fueled by a tweet from Donald Kipkorir, who expressed concerns about the alleged harassment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza, drawing parallels with previous government actions against individuals.

However, amidst the swirling rumors and accusations, the National Police Service stepped in to refute the allegations. In an official statement released on Twitter, they explicitly denied any arrest of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza. The tweet from the National Police Service read, “FALSE ALLEGATION ON ARREST OF MERU GOVERNOR, HON. KAWIRA MWANGAZA. Contrary to the false allegations circulating on social media, the National Police Service wishes to clarify that the Police have not arrested Meru Governor, Hon. Kawira Mwangaza.”

This official denial from the National Police Service effectively contradicted the initial report from Citizen TV and the subsequent statements from Donald Kipkorir. The situation highlights the challenges and complexities of disseminating accurate information in the age of social media, where unverified reports can quickly gain traction.

The controversy surrounding Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s alleged arrest remains unresolved as of now. Further developments and clarifications may be expected in the coming days as the truth about these allegations becomes clearer. Smartie News will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as they become available.
