Family Seeks Aid for Kenyan Athlete Josephat Ngetich’s Repatriation After Drowning While Rescuing Dog in Mexico

Josephat Kibet Ngetich, a former Kenyan track runner, tragically lost his life in Mexico while trying to rescue his employer’s dog, which had accidentally fallen into a swimming pool. The retired athlete, who had left track events due to a leg injury in 2006, hailed from Bomet County and had been away from Kenya for more than 17 years. He was based in the US before suffering a career-ending injury and relocating to Mexico, where he was employed as a coach.

Ngetich’s death has sent shockwaves within his family, who remain puzzled by why he chose to risk his life to rescue the dog. His widow revealed that he would often go out of his way to help others, including animals. Ngetich’s heroic act has been widely praised, with many describing him as a selfless and brave individual who died while trying to save the life of another being.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and many questions remain unanswered. It is not known how the dog fell into the pool, and it is unclear whether Ngetich was a trained lifeguard or had any experience in water rescue. However, what is clear is that Ngetich’s death has left a void in the Kenyan athletics community, with many expressing their sadness and disbelief at the tragic loss of a talented athlete and coach. Ngetich’s family is now seeking help to bring his body back home to Kenya for burial.

They have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the transportation of Ngetich’s body, which has received an outpouring of support from friends, family, and well-wishers who have expressed their condolences and offered their help.

Josephat Ngetich’s death is a tragic loss for his family, friends, and the Kenyan athletics community. His heroic act of trying to save his employer’s dog will forever be remembered, and his legacy as a selfless and brave individual will live on.
