Change of Guard: New Leadership at CA Kenya

The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) was suddenly thrust into the headlines yesternight.. Sadly, this was not for their groundbreaking innovations but rather for a major management shake-up.

By yesterday 9pm, the Director General of CA, Ezra Chiloba, found himself suspended from his duties. The source of the unexpected change came in the form of an internal memo delivered by the CA board chair, Mary Mungai, following a decisive board meeting that took place yesterday (Monday).

With Chiloba temporarily out of the picture, the mantle of responsibility has fallen upon the capable shoulders of Christopher Wambua, who has been appointed as the Acting Director General. Mungai, in her announcement, had this to say, “Following a meeting of the Authority’s Board held on 18th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr. Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice. I trust that you will accord him the necessary support.”

This development marks a significant turn of events for Ezra Chiloba, who had taken the reins of the CA just two years prior, succeeding Francis Wangusi upon his retirement in 2021. At the time of his appointment, Chiloba was granted a renewable four-year term in the coveted position.

It’s worth noting that Chiloba’s journey to the CA was not without its bumps. Prior to joining the CA, he had faced turbulence in his professional life, having been relieved of his duties as the Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in October 2018.
